A Quest for an Air Conditioner
2003-07-19 - 22:14

We started our day waking up in a hot, stuffy bedroom with the fan on full blast and the windows letting in hot, slow moving air. Ughhh. We sluggishly got out of bed and took our turns taking a nice shower then I examined my hair. I got my hair highlighted last night. Looks really good.

It was time to buy an Air Conditioner as the rest of the week was in the high 90's. We went to Home Depot, and they ran out. We then drove to Sears on the other side of the town, they also ran out. We walked out into our car to start it up and go to the car wash. Some birds pooped on top our car and on the windshield over the course of this morning... We started the car up and it just cranked a little but the engine didn't start at all.

Great.

Tried it again, still the same thing. Thankfully we parked on the side of the Automotive part of Sears. :) We were considering calling the in-laws for a ride back home when we decided to go up to the Automotive front counter to ask of what they can do. With just a few questions answered by the mechanic, he said its the battery. Made no sense to me. The battery was tested just fine less than a month ago. We all walked out to the car, the Mechanic lifted up the hood and instructed Chris to start up the car. Richard, the Mechanic said, "Yep, it's the Battery, and/or the Alternator." He told us to come back up to the counter to start up the bill. Richard told us since we got there the last out of three cars, it'll be about a 45 min wait. Thankfully Sears is connected to the Mall. Yay. We went to Waldenbooks and bought a few things there and sucked on the Wendy's drinks we bought earlier in the day. Just walked around and killed time. Five till, we walked back to the Auto Dept and they said they need to order the Alternator, it'd be about a 15 min wait. Eh. So we just waited in the employee's breakroom area instead. Nearly 30 min later (they had to install the alternator and four bulbs for the left and right/front and back turn signals - though the fuse for the right side is out so we'll have to go buy them ourselves.. but they're cheap). All in all, installation of everything cost us little over $300.00. Thankfully we had it put under the credit card. So anyone who ever ridden or drove my lil' cavalier knew that it used to shake/vibrate all the time, especially towards the front of the car - it no longer does. Yay!

We finally drove home only to find out that the apt was much warmer than we anticipated. Ugh. So Chris called a local store that usually stocks A/C's. Fortunately they had a few on sale just over $150. What a deal! So I gave Chris the dimensions of the window in the living room (49" x 21.5" side opening) and he hurried over to the store. About half an hour later he returned with a big ass box about the size of a dishwasher. It was obviously heavy... he gently put it down on the floor. He had to go back out to the car to get his MP3 player (he can't live w/o it). Came back and I asked him what dimensions they were, the smaller, the more work we had to do. He said "Fits 22" to 36" double hung windows" ughhhh its too big!!! So he got upset and attempted to pick it back up. I said "no, let's just wait till tomorrow, its too late now anyway." We then intiated a small fight.. I banged the fridge door, he collapsed from dizzyness (though I thought he was just tired - oops). After he took his cold shower, we "made up" I guess you could say. Spent the next hour sprawled on the couches sipping ice cold water and reading the books we bought. Fun.
